ecodesign was engaged to document the landscape design for this sustainable coastal development. The site was heavily constrained as it was assessed as being bushfire prone, it had an extensive existing tree canopy, a riparian zone and stormwater drainage easements, endangered species and an endangered ecological vegetation community.
Our brief was to design the landscape in accordance with the principals of water sensitive urban design (WSUD), ecologically sustainable development (ESD) and to ensure as much of the existing vegetation could be retained protected and improved.
Plantings needed to be representative of both the existing native vegetation but also provide browse for the Koalas and Pygmy Gliders. The plantings had to also comply with the Rural Fire Service guidelines for Asset Protection Zones (APZ) and Inner Protection Areas (IPA).
Our integrated landscape master plan, tree impact assessment and vegetation management plan identified landscape management zones whereby the landscape was to be managed in accordance with certain criteria to comply with each of the site constraints.
The resultant development has allowed for a range of architecturally designed homes to be nestled harmoniously within the landscape.
The Sirius Road Industrial Subdivision required the coordianted efforts of Bush Fire Management Consultants, Ecologist, Architects and ecodesign as landscape designers.
This site is located immediately adjacent to the Lane Cove River National Park and the Lane Cove River. The site is covered with a mixture of remnant native bushland and cleared land.
The project ecologist had identified the areas of highest value for conservation to be retained protected and improved. Whilst the remaining areas were to be developed for industrial use and access road ways.
Our landscape documentation was developed to comply with the vegetation management plan prepared by the ecologist and in accordance with bush fire management requirements.
ecodesign was approached to prepare Standard Landscape Guidelines for private domain landscape treatments within the Viewpoint Estate located at Bass Hill.
Given the extent of residential landscape design work we undertake within greenfield development sites such as Nelsons Ridge, The New Rouse Hill, Lakewood, Waterside, Georges Fair, The Ponds, Ropes Crossing, Jordans Springs and Bunya Estates it was logical for ecodesign to prepare these guidelines.
ecodesign undertook the detailed survey of more than 700 trees located within the Royal Military College - Duntroon Heritage Precinct. Our data formed the basis of an extensively detailed Heritage tree management plan.
This Heritage Tree Management Plan won the prestigious AILDM National Landscape Management Award in 2010. Our Plan formed part of the greater Royal Military College Duntroon Heritage Landscape Management Guidelines prepared by Environmental Resource Management.
This project undertaken for the Department of Defence will ensure the considered best practice management of the trees located within the Heritage Precinct at RMC Duntroon.
One Tree Hill Projects initially engaged ecodesign to undertake a Tree Risk Management Assessment for an area of dense boundary plantings originally grown from tubestock.
Subsequently we were engaged to provide a Landscape Master plan and Landscape Management Plan for the future Illabundaecovillage.
The design allowed for zoned planting in accordance with permaculture principles. Areas of the 5 Acre allotment have been set aside for bee keeping, poultry, vegetable gardens, food forests, farm forestry, water recycling wetlands, ecological restoration, housing streetscapes and common recreation areas.
Our works required close integration and coordination with the architecture as the principles of passive solar design and the inclusion of photovoltaic solar cells were incorporated into all buildings.
Almost the entire landscape has been developed to provide multiple functional uses from the specified plants. Such uses include future building materials, food, water purification, fodder or habitat for fauna, passive solar design, windbreaks or ecological restoration.
